What is a Data Mapping and why do I need one?

The "Data Mapping" allows us to map the columns in your CSV file with Shopify's fields. If you tried to upload a file with no "Data Mapping," we would have no way of telling what value to map to what Shopify field. We require each Import to have an associated "Data Mapping."

Click the "Data Mappings" tab on the home page to map your file's fields to a Shopify field. From here, click on "New Data Mapping." This will bring up the Data Mapping page.

Data Mapping

The first thing you need to do is give your "Data Mapping" a name. From here, you can map your file's column headers to the shopify field you would like to send your data to. In the "Fields" section of the "Data Mapping" you will set a set of tabs. Click the tab for the data category you would like to set up. Once you've clicked the tab, you will see a table with two columns. On the left side is the Shopify field, and on the right side is the Header Name you are using in your csv file.

For example, if you have a column called "Currency" that you want to send to shopify's "currency" field you click the check box next to "currency" under the "Shopify Field" column. Then you can type "Currency" into the "Header Name" column in the same row you just selected. Continue this for each field you want to import.

Note that EZ Importer requires the "name" field to be provided. Shopify also requires you to send a "Line Items" for every order so you will have to fill out the required fields on that tab as well.

Don't see a field you need to import? Contact us, and we can help add the field to the "Data Mapping."
