Locking Your Data Mapping

When uploading your import file, EZ Importer copies the data mapping you selected or created during upload. This is done for a few reasons.

  1. EZ Importer uses the Order name to build your orders and line items. It also uses the order name to keep track of your import while it's running. If you read the order name using one column and then decide to use another column, EZ Importer will not be able to keep track of your imports or delete them after the import is complete.
  2. EZ Importer uses data mapping to figure out how to read the columns in your CSV file. If you decide to change the columns while your import is running, you can either break the import or cause inconsistencies in the Shopify admin.

To try and prevent errors and mistakes during run time, we lock the data mapping and associate it with your import.

I've changed my data mapping. Can I see the mapping associated with my import?

If you've changed your data mapping after the fact and want to see what the data mapping looks like on your already uploaded or running the import, you can still do so by clicking the view link under the data mapping field on the import page.

This will bring you to a read-only page of the data mapping associated with this import.  If you try to change the data mapping associated with the import, they will not be reflected on the imported orders.

How do I update my data mapping?

If you've uploaded your file and want to change the data mapping associated with that import, you'll have to decline the import and then edit the data mapping. Once you've edited the data mapping, you can re-import your file with the updated data mapping. You can still edit your data mapping at any time, but the changes you make will not affect any imports that have been started (i.e., files read or uploaded).

There are two places you can edit your data mappings. You can either click the "Data Mappings" tab on the home page

, or you can click the "Edit Data Mapping Template" link under the data mapping name on the "Locked Data Mapping" page.

You can edit your data mapping from here based on the columns in the previously uploaded file. This will allow you to pick the columns from a drop-down menu rather than typing them by hand. Just remember that the changes made to the data mapping will not affect any files you've already uploaded. For more details on how to edit your data mapping using your CSV file headers, click here.
